Hundreds of city leaders gathered Wednesday to celebrate past and present efforts to revitalize Harlem.
The Harlem Renaissance Day of Commitment Leadership Breakfast recognized more than two decades of programs and services that have helped revive the neighborhood.
The non-profit Abyssinian Development Corporation hosted the event at City College in Hamilton Heights.
At the breakfast, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said the group has helped a citywide push to improve education.
"Test scores have jumped by double digits, graduation rates have increased to their highest rates ever and I'm proud to say that our city's black and Hispanic kids are leading the charge year after year they are narrowing the achievement gap in our classrooms and we're not gonna stop until that gap totally goes away," said the mayor.
Since the Abyssinian Baptist Church started ADC in 1989, it has leveraged more than $600 million in Harlem investments.
Among other efforts, the group also sponsors three public education programs.
