Once thought to be fiscally impossible, a 10th Avenue subway stop on the number 7 train may still be a possibility.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg is applying for a grant of up to $3 million, which would be used to redesign plans for the number 7 extension project between Times Square and the Hudson Rail Yards.
It would enable a station at 41st Street and 10th Avenue to remain a viable option sometime after the extension project is scheduled to be complete in 2013.
MTA officials released a statement saying the agency is "[...] fully supportive of the Mayor's proposal to seek federal funding to study the viability of building out a Tenth Avenue station in the future.... While neither the City or MTA can fund the station due to financial constraints, we should not preclude the possibility of a station in the future."
