A runaway drill caused construction of the Second Avenue subway line to come to a halt early Thursday morning.
According to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, the 15-foot drill was testing the rock underneath Second Avenue near 90th Street when it slipped off course, sending it piercing through the street.
The two-inch hole was patched up soon after, right before the morning rush hour began.
Residents who spoke with NY1 say this is just one of the many problems caused by the drilling that's plaguing the neighborhood.
"When they're doing explosions underneath the ground and you feel it. People have buildings that are shaking, that's scary stuff," said one Upper East Side resident.
"I live in an old building with fragile plaster ceilings that could crack and collapse, so yeah we're concerned," said another.
"For the secure and safety, you gotta take care of this as soon as possible," said a third.
The MTA says drilling is put on hold until they can figure out what caused the problem.
