A father is suing a Manhattan group home after he says his severely disabled daughter was sexually abused while in their care.
Angel Acevedo filed a lawsuit Thursday seeking $10 million in damages and a full investigation into Episcopal Social Services of New York.
He says his 43-year-old daughter was raped and contracted a sexually transmitted disease in January 2008, but he did not find out until four months later.
Acevedo says he also learned then his daughter could have come down with the disease after an incident in 1993 that he says he was never told about.
"In 2008 when I questioned them about this, they said that it was from 1993 and that this disease was dormant all this time. I do not buy that. And I want these people -- I want to hold them accountable for what happened," Acevedo said.
A spokesperson for Episcopal Social Services says there is no merit to the allegations.
