With an ethics trial looming over him, longtime Congressman Charles Rangel hit the streets of Harlem on Saturday to boost his re-election campaign.

Rangel, who has represented parts of Harlem, Washington Heights and the Upper West Side for nearly four decades, toured his district for Harlem Week.

NY1 asked the 80-year-old Democrat if he is worried about what voters think about the charges.

"No, I think they're thinking about jobs, education for their kids, trying to make certain that we get a fair shake. Make sure everyone does, including their congressman," said Rangel. "But most of all, people in Harlem just want to make certain that when you think 'America,' you ain't thinking about forgetting us."

State Assemblyman Adam Clayton Powell IV, one of Rangel's Democratic challengers, is the son of the Reverend Adam Clayton Powell Jr., who was defeated by Rangel in the 1970 congressional election.
