Some September 11th first responders shared their love of books Tuesday at a two-hour "read-a-thon" for children in honor of a young woman killed in the attacks.
Members of the New York City Fire Department and New York City Police Department took some time off from their day jobs to read aloud to children at the World Financial Center in Lower Manhattan as part of the first-ever Brooke Jackman Foundation read-a-thon.
Jackman, 23, was killed on 9/11 and her love of books and devotion to children spurred her family to create the literacy foundation.
Among the two-dozen readers was NY1 Parenting correspondent Shelley Goldberg, Fire Commissioner Salvatore Cassano, uniformed firefighters and police officers, and Dr. Twila Liggett, the creator of “Reading Rainbow.”
