Public Advocate Bill de Blasio joined up with angry tenants Tuesday to protest what they're calling landlord retaliation.
Residents of 197 Madison Street say their landlord turned on the heat on September 1st and 2nd, two days that topped out at 80 plus degrees.
Last Monday, the building's registered landlord, Kai Lo, was named one of the city's 200 worst landlords by de Blasio's office.
The tenants union for The Committee Against Anti-Asian Violence says repairs haven't been made to the building in years.
"In 2002, the tenants took the landlord to court and in 2003 they settled in court for the repairs to be made and for the landlord to give leases to tenants. The leases were given but the repairs were never made," said CAAAV Executive Director Helena Wong.
New Golden Age Realty says Kai Lo died six months ago, and his sons are now taking care of the building.
NY1 has reached out to them for comment.
