Being a class clown was a point of honor for those who were in training for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade on Saturday.

Some Macy's employees came out to Lincoln Center to receive firsthand training from members of the Big Apple Circus.

Once the volunteers learn skills like etiquette, comedic timing and gags, they will become full-fledged parade clowns and receive their coveted fake noses.

"We're teaching them the power of being simple, authentic and direct. And to be able to go against this huge backdrop of the parade and be able to go to one person on the side who is watching, and extend a genuine 'Happy holidays, so glad you're with us,'" said Michael Christensen, the co-founder of the Big Apple Circus.

The parade's executive producer said 22 groups of clowns will participate in the 84th annual Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
