The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree may be down, but it's not done spreading holiday cheer just yet.

The 74-foot spruce is being milled into lumber this weekend to become part of a Habitat for Humanity home.

The lumber will be used to frame the exterior walls of a home for a family in Newburgh, N.Y.

Other parts of the tree will also be put to good use.

"The main trunk of the tree is milled into the lumber and that's donated to Habitat, but then we're also taking the scraps this year and those scraps will be milled into paper which will be used to produce a book that we've written with Habitat to tell the story of the cycle of the tree. All the proceeds from the sale of that book will benefit Habitat. So it really is almost 100 percent utilized," said Rockefeller Center Managing Director Keith Douglas.

This is the fourth consecutive year Habitat for Humanity has partnered with Tishman Speyer, the owners of Rockefeller Center.

Past trees were used to build a home for a Hurricane Katrina survivor and for shelving in an affordable building in the city.
