Allen's go-ahead three-pointer with 12 seconds left sunk the Knicks 87-85, in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinals match-up in Boston.

Amar'e Stoudemire had 28 points and 11 rebounds for New York, and Carmelo Anthony finished with 15 points.

"I hate to say it, but it almost looks like same old Knicks," said a disappointed Knicks fan.

Game 2 of the best-of-seven series will be Tuesday night in Boston.

Hours earlier, Rangers forward Brandon Dubinsky scored the game-winning goal with only 1:39 remaining in regulation to give the Blue Shirts a 3-2 win over the Washington Capitals.

The win pulls New York within one game of the Caps in their best-of-seven Eastern Quarterfinal playoff series. The victory, in front of a frenzied crowd at Madison Square Garden, kept the Rangers from going down 3-0 in the series.

Dubinsky's goal capped a back-and-forth contest that included a disallowed Rangers goal as time expired in the second period.

Vinny Prospal and Erik Christensen also scored for the Rangers as Henrik Lundqvist made 24 saves in the win.

Some say it was the hometown fan advantage that gave the Blue Shirts the edge Sunday.

"With all us fans in there rooting them, on they had to come out and take care of business," said a Rangers fan.

Game 4 will be Wednesday night at Madison Square Garden.

Sunday was the first time since 1997 that the two city teams were playing postseason games on the same day, and local sports fans were glad to cheer on the city's changes.

"Both teams are in. Rangers won tonight and Knicks are going to take the series over. We're going to do it all together," said a fan. "Knicks, Rangers -- Garden's alive once again!"

"I'm with New York every step of the way, if it's the Mets, the Yankees, the Knicks... and the Nets, one or two years from now," said another fan.
