The head of the Real Estate Board of New York was honored Tuesday for helping reinvigorate a prime piece of waterfront property.

REBNY President Steven Spinola was presented with The Leadership Award from the Friends of Hudson River Park during its annual gala Tuesday night.

Spinola was praised for his contributions in sustaining the area and keeping the park vibrant.

"It's just a great feeling and I'm trilled to be receiving this honor that really should go to the friends themselves for what they've done," Spinola said.

"The City of New York has the best park system in the world. And one of the reasons we do is because New Yorkers care. Because they volunteer, they write checks, they join up. Eighty to 100 million dollars a year gets raised outside of the city budget to help parks," said Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe.

NY1's own Elizabeth Kaledin served as the emcee.

Friends of Hudson River Park is committed to securing the resources needed to complete, sustain and enhance it.
