Tests are underway on a carriage horse that collapsed and died over the weekend.

The horse, named Charlie, was taken to Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in hopes of determining a cause.

City officials say more testing is necessary, but the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says an initial report indicates the horse was likely in pain due to an ulcer condition in its stomach and a fractured tooth.

The death has added more fuel to the debate over whether horse drawn carriages should be banned in the city.
