New Jersey politicians are speaking out after learning the New York City Police Department spied on Muslims across the Northeast, including in Newark.

Governor Chris Christie called the surveillance operation "disturbing" and also said he did not recall being briefed about the operation when he was the state's top prosecutor five years ago.

Meantime, Newark Mayor Cory Booker said he was offended to read a 2007 NYPD report that detailed all of the city's mosques and Muslim-owned businesses.

Booker added that he and Newark's police director were never told the NYPD was conducting a spying operation, and if they had known, they never would have allowed it.
