Officials Investigating Fatal Brooklyn Fire

Fire officials are investigating a fire that killed a Brooklyn woman early Saturday morning.

Officials said the flames broke out in a third floor apartment on Furman Avenue in Ocean Hill around 4 a.m. Saturday.

Investigators said Lorena Escalera, 25, was found unconscious when firefighters arrived.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the New York Times, Escalera was a prominent transgender performer.
