On Thursday, State Senator Adriano Espaillat received the support of former Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion in his bid to oust Congressman Charles Rangel.
Speaking at City Hall, Espaillat and Carrion repeatedly said voters are ready for a change after the more than four decades Rangel has served in the House of Representatives.
Rangel was recently hospitalized for a spinal infection, but Espaillat said he is not focusing on Rangel's record or health.
"Absolutely not, I think that very often this race is framed around the past and the future elections are about the future, really," said Espaillat.
"What this is really about is the future. We're building a new New York, we're building the future of New York," said Carrion.
At least two other candidates are competing for the seat in the June 26 primary.
