Female veterans were saluted for their service Wednesday in Midtown.

NY1 anchor Roma Torre was on hand as Shining Service Worldwide held its "Women in Media for Women in the Military" celebration to honor female veterans while raising awareness of the issues they face.

Organizers of the non-profit group say the need is great as the women, many of them homeless with children, carry emotional scars from their wartime experiences.

"They may not have their limbs missing, but they've got silent scars. They've got serious PTSD issues, a lot of them have dealt with sexual trauma," said Shining Service Worldwide Founder Linda Franklin.

"I went to Iraq, and coming from that transition was very difficult. You spend your time trying to figure out who you are and how you fit in because the environment you left was chaotic," said Honored Veteran Victoria Givens.

Before the celebration, five of the returning vets received makeovers to help them transition into civilian life.
