The Metropolitan Farmer's Market is now offering fresh produce to residents of East Harlem.
Located at East 99th Street and Third avenue, the market opened today and will be open every Friday through November 16.
"I think this would be a most important idea for the children to know what fresh fruit looks like and not going to the store to get the frozen," said shopper Yaqub Ziyad.
"You can't get it any fresher than over here," said shopper Frank Torres. "Cause when I go to the supermarkets now, they're not really that great. They're not fresh, they're not at its peak."
The farmer's market is a joint effort between Metropolitan Hospital and Harvest Home Farmer’s Market.
"We are thrilled to partner with the farmers to help promote good health in East Harlem and affordable produce," said Meryl Weinberg, the executive director of Metropolitan Hospital.
The city's new program entitled "Health Bucks" will be accepted at the location.
