The long-time principal of Stuyvesant High School, Stanley Teitel, is stepping down after 13 years at the helm of the prestigious school.
Teitel announced his retirement Friday via email.
He is part of an ongoing Department of Education investigation into whether the school reacted appropriately to a recent cheating scandal.
Seventy students had to retake the Spanish Regents after officials say the students received text messages from a junior who took photos of the test on his cell phone.
Another student is in trouble for allegedly passing notes during the physics exam.
In an email, Teitel wrote that being principal of the school was the highlight of his 41-year career.
He went on to say, "Thank you to the Stuyvesant community for all of the satisfaction you have afforded me for the last 29 years. It was a genuine pleasure to have served you."
