Rep. Charles Rangel spoke out Tuesday against a flyer put out by State Sen. Adriano Espaillat's campaign, accusing Espaillat opponent Guillermo Linares of betraying Latinos by supporting Rangel when Espaillat ran for Rangel's seat in Congress.

Assemblyman Linares, who is running against Espaillat in the upcoming State Senate primary, supported Rangel instead of Espaillat when Espaillat and Rangel faced off in a Congressional primary in June.

Espaillat and Linares are both of Dominican descent.

At a news conference Tuesday, Rangel said he was outraged by the flyer.

He also said he knew people who endorsed Espaillat would be outraged as well.

"Let me tell you something, Senator," Rangel said. "You can mention all of the names you want, whether it's Cuomo, de Blasio or Thompson. I know them well enough to know they reject this and reject the idea of this type of filth going out there."

An Espaillat spokesman defended the flyer, saying it is "reflective of the community's sentiments.''

The primary election will be held Thursday.
