Authorities say the suspect made some anti-gay slurs to another man, who was with his partner at the McDonald's on West Third Street Wednesday night.

An argument started and that's when police say the suspect slashed the man with a razor blade.

The victim needed stitches.

The Anti-Violence Project spoke with NY1 about the attack.

"We need to raise awareness that this is an issue that affects a lot of LGBTQ people in the city, and especially in the West Village," said Sharon Stapel, the executive director of the Anti-Violence Project. "LGBTQ youth, who are looking for someplace to hang out, and often use that McDonald's as a place to hang out and to eat and to be with their friends."

This is the same McDonald's where two women got into a fight with a clerk last year.

Council Speaker Christine Quinn's office says the McDonalds has taken steps to improve security at the restaurant since a meeting in March.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital where he needed stitches.

The suspect is described as being between 35 to 40 years old, about 5'9" and weighing 300 to 350 pounds.
