The City Council approved a plan to expand the Chelsea Market building by a 41-1 vote Tuesday.

Owner Jamestown Properties said the 290,000-square-feet expansion would allow media and tech companies to grow.

The project was previously approved by a council subcommittee and land use committee last month.

City Council Speaker Christine Quinn, whose district includes the Chelsea neighborhood, already gave the project her blessing.

The project will preserve the historic building's facade and 75 percent of its retail space.

In addition, Jamestown will also invest in affordable housing units, a youth technology center, and continued work on the High Line.
