Police say a Bronx teen whose body was found in the lobby of an apartment building was murdered.

The medical examiner says Destiny Sanchez, 15, was smothered and suffered compression injuries to her neck.

Officers found Sanchez unconscious and unresponsive in a building on Barretto Street in Hunts Point Friday.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say Sanchez doesn't live in the building and was visiting someone there.

"It hits so close to home," said Jackie Mendoza, Sanchez's cousin. "We see it in the news, but for us to go through it, it's devastating."

"We heard a bunch of screaming," said resident Fonte Patterson. "That's all it was. It was like regular noises. It's an everyday thing out here in New York."

One person has been questioned in connection with the case, but there have been no arrests.

Anyone with information on the case should contact the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS, or text CRIMES and then enter TIP577, or visit www.nypdcrimestoppers.com.
