City Councilman Dan Garodnick is reportedly dropping his bid to become City Comptroller.

A source tells NY1 that Garodnick will instead run for re-election to his council district on Manhattan's East Side.

He's also expected to be in the running to be City Council Speaker.

Garodnick's chances in the comptroller race grew slimmer last week when Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer announced he was running for the job.

In his first interview since the announcement, Stringer appeared on Inside City Hall and said he's the most qualified candidate.

"I consulted supporters, friends, people I respect in government, obviously my wife Elise, and I came to the decision that the comptroller's job was the best way I could make a contribution today," Stringer said.

City Councilman Domenic Recchia has also been mentioned as a possible candidate for comptroller.
