The city's bike share program will now launch a few months later, and with more than 1,000 fewer bikes, as a result of Hurricane Sandy.
The plan originally called for a March launch with 7,000 bikes, but the storm flooded the Brooklyn Navy Yard, where most of the equipment was being stored.
Now, the program is set to launch in May with around 5,500 bikes.
The stations will also be located in Manhattan south of 59th Street and in densely-populated parts of Brooklyn before expanding to the rest of the borough and Long Island City.
The department said it plans to expand to 7,000 bikes by the end of 2013.
