An ambitious redevelopment project on Manhattan's far West Side crossed a major milestone Tuesday.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg oversaw the groundbreaking for a 120,000-square-feet platform at a former railyard site located on Ninth Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets.
The site is planned to eventually house a 5-million-square-feet development with office and residential towers, as well as public and retail space.
Construction is expected to wrap up sometime next year, with tenants moving in by 2016.
