Students and parents of the Democracy Prep Charter School took part in an inauguration watch party Monday.

Families watched President Barack Obama's swearing in on big screen TVs at Harlem Armory.

Organizers said the lessons of his first inauguration still ring true today.

"To be able to sit back and look and see President Obama being inaugurated for a second term is a really historic milestone and an opportunity for our scholars and our families to really celebrate and revel in the possibility [that] if they work hard, they can, in fact, go to college and change the world," said Seth Andrews of Democracy Prep.

"This is a true example, a true testimony to our scholars that they one day can be president," said Milowa Rodriguez of Democracy Prep. They can achieve bigger things."

Democracy Prep Charter School opened in 2006 with a focus on educating students in the political process while getting them involved in community service.
