The National Institute for Latino Policy celebrated its 30th anniversary as members, community activists and lawmakers gathered in the Flatiron District Friday night to pay tribute to the Latino think tank.
They also roasted founder and president Angelo Falcón, who said work remains to be done.
"The main point is, we want to be at the table when decisions are made about our community," Falcón said. "As someone told me once, if you're not at the table, that means you're on the menu, and we don't want to be on the menu."
The institute said it has played a role in the advancement of Latinos over the past three decades, pointing to the appointment of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
