A teenager is recovering in a Brooklyn hospital after investigators say he exchanged gunfire with police Monday night.

The New York City Police Department says officers responded to a call of shots fired just after 9:30 p.m. at an apartment building located at 2294 Atlantic Avenue in Brownsville.

Police found two men on a rooftop.

Investigators say a 16-year-old refused to drop his gun and opened fire.
