One day after Banana Joe won Best in Show at the 137th Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show, the 5-year-old affenpinscher had a day on the town enough to be the envy of anyone on two or four legs.
First up was the traditional steak lunch at Sardi's, served on a silver platter.
Joe then visited the Empire State Building and rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange.
"I'm really, really beside myself, because this is just an incredible adventure," said Ernesto Lara, Banana Joe's handler. "That he finished with the, you know, really, in a high, winning the best dog show in the world. I mean, it's the dog show of the world. And so, what else could you ask of anything? It's something that, you know, everybody that's involved with dogs dreams to at least come close to it, and by winning it, this just fulfills everything we expected."
Banana Joe was one of more than 2,700 dogs competing for the prize.
He is the first affenpinscher to win.
The runner-up was an Old English Sheepdog.
