New York State is investigating three insurance companies that are generating a higher-than-average percentage of complaints from Hurricane Sandy victims.

The insurers are Narragansett Bay, Tower and Kingstone.

The Department of Financial Services wants to find out if the companies are failing to send adjusters and process claims on time.

Some homeowners also report being unable to reach company representatives.

A representative from Narragansett Bay said the company closed the vast majority of its 11,000 Hurricane Sandy claims and had fewer then 150 complaints while working closely with the state.

NY1 has reached out to the other two companies and was awaiting a response as of Thursday night.

New York State is keeping track of homeowner complaints linked to Hurricane Sandy and posting the company report cards online.

They can be found at nyinsure.ny.gov.
