Chinatown Bus Company Ordered To Suspend Fleet Over Safety Concerns

By: NY1 News

The operator of one of Chinatown's biggest discount bus services has been forced to pull its fleet off the road because of safety issues.

The U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration says it ordered Fung Wah to suspend its 28 buses after Massachusetts inspectors found significant structural cracks.

The bus operation provides service between New York and Boston.

The company is now running charter buses in place of its regular fleet and has reduced service from every 30 minutes to every hour.

Fung Wah has had multiple incidents in recent years.

In June 2008, a bus jumped a curb killing one person.

Additionally in 2006, an accident outside Boston injured 34 people.
