The agency's Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration shut down the Boston-based Fung Wah bus company.

Officials said Fung Wah refused to cooperate with inspectors after it was order to provide the safety records for each of the 28 buses in the fleet earlier this week.

Federal Regulators have the authority to revoke the operating license of any company deemed a safety risk to the public.

Customers have said Fung Wah hired charter buses to continue operations.

Local riders said they're not happy.

"The cost is well, it's $15, and it's 15 dollars to come back," said one rider. "So I don't know any other bus company that does that."

"I hope that they go back to service because frankly, the way I see it, it was a convenient, also safe, the way I saw it, the last few years, and I was satisfied with service," said a second.

"Every time I've taken it, I've never had an issue," said a third. "I think all buses break down at any point in time. I think it's just because its cheap and it's the competition that people give it a bad name."

The company has had multiple incidents in recent years.

In June 2008, a bus jumped a curb in Manhattan, killing one person, and in 2006, an accident outside Boston injured 34 people.
