As the Mets fortune rises higher, a fan is looking to take a piece of Shea Stadium history into space.
Astronaut Mike Massimino is planning to take a home plate from last year's season with him when he heads into orbit in October.
Massimino will take the Mets memento aboard the shuttle Atlantis.
The astronaut will probably have more than the pennant race on his mind. He's expected to be the primary spacewalker on the mission to fix the Hubble Telescope.
This is all part of a Subway Series rivalry with a fellow Astronaut, Yankee fan Garret Reisman, who took dirt from Yankee Stadium with him on the Endeavour mission in March.
