CHARLOTTE — Time Warner Cable, the parent company of Time Warner Cable News, is now Charter Communications.

The companies have wrapped up a merger that took more than a year to get government approval.

In North Carolina, that adds Charter territory in the western part of the state, as well as a few pockets through the rest of the state, to create a virtually statewide coverage area.

Charter CEO and Chairman Tom Rutledge says the new company will add more technology to the cable and Internet business and beef up customer service.

“We believe there are lots of ways to make the quality of the product we deliver better. The first thing we do is we hire all of our people domestically and make all of our phone calls, and all of our activity occur with in-house labor,” he said.

Rutledge says there will be some overlap in management positions they'll have to take care of, but he wants to add 20,000 jobs nationwide in the next four years.
