CHARLOTTE -- NASCAR driver Tony Stewart is leaving the track for good.
He announced his retirement on Wednesday afternoon.
The three-time Sprint Cup winner will have one more season behind the wheel and says it's bittersweet, but it's time to make a change.
"Next year will be my last year in the Sprint Cup series. It was a choice that was 100 percent mine. There was no pressure. I had more people trying to talk me out of it than anything," said Stewart.
Stewart made headlines last year when he was involved in a deadly wreck but continued racing.
He says Clint Bowyer will take over the number 14 Chevrolet after next year.
