A Heat Advisory and Air Quality Alert are in effect Thursday as the city faced one of the hottest days of the year so far.

Highs were over 91 degrees, but parts of the city felt like it was over 100 degrees because of the humidity.

Heavy thunderstorms were initially expected in the city, but the forecast lightened and the city saw passing showers.

Cooling centers are open across the five boroughs.

They are located in libraries, senior centers, and public housing facilities.

To locate the one nearest you, call 311 or go to nyc.gov/beattheheat.

Those 18 or older can also get a fire hydrant spray cap at their local firehouse.

You must show ID to receive one.
