The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is trying to improve customer service by adding so called "Customer Service Ambassadors."

It's a one-year pilot program tied to an agreement between the MTA and Transport Workers Union Local 100.

Workers equipped with mobile devices will move around stations to offer directions and real-time service information to riders.

The MTA says it will prioritize stations based on ridership, transfers, tourist use and nearby major destinations.

There will be seven stations in the roll out including Grand Central, Times Square, Union Square and Penn Station at 8th and 7th Avenues.

As part of the agreement with the MTA, the number of station agents and platform controllers will not be reduced.

The MTA says the workers will be able to apply to become "Customer Service Ambassadors."

The union says they will be able to earn at least $1 more per hour.
