An 11-year-old boy is being credited with coming to his family's rescue during a home invasion in the Bronx.

Police say 22-year-old Brian Febus knocked on the door of the family's home on Clifford Place around 5 p.m. Tuesday, asking to use the bathroom. When they refused, he allegedly kicked down the door.

Police say the 31-year-old mother grabbed a knife to protect her and her two young sons, but the suspect took it away and started punching her.

That's when authorities say the 11-year-old took the knife and stabbed Febus before he ran out of the apartment.

A neighbor tells us she's impressed with how the boy acted.

"It's unfortunate that he was put in that situation, but he did what his heart told him to do, which was protect his mother, who's protected him for 11 years, took care of him for 11 years, you know what I mean. He's wonderful," the neighbor said.

The mom and the boy were taken to a hospital with multiple cuts.

Investigators say they were able to tie Febus to the crime when he showed up at the same hospital with stab wounds. He is being charged with burglary and assault.
