NEW YORK - Long Island Rail Road and New Jersey Transit riders were subjected to another rough commute Tuesday evening after an Amtrak power problem in an East River tunnel.

And riders can expect more of the same for awhile as Amtrak works to make repairs at Penn Station.

The railroad said that it is putting together a plan to improve the aging infrastructure at Penn.

More details are expected in the coming days.

But Amtrak says the work will result in "some delays and cancellations."

The New York Times says the railroad is considering closing a number of tracks at Penn so it can make the necesary repairs.

But there's no word yet on how long the work will take to complete.

Amtrak's decision follows two recent derailments at Penn Station that led to days of service disruptions.

Riders we spoke with say the recent delays have them frustrated.

"I love New Jersey Transit but at the same time it seems like every week I'm delayed either going or coming from my commute," said one commuter.

"It's been like that for like a month between the derailments and broke down trains, it's been pretty awful," said another commuter.

Long Island Rail Road service is back to normal after Tuesday night's problems.

But a number of New Jersey Transit lines are experiencing 15 minute delays to and from Penn because of ongoing Amtrak maintenance work.
