A Manhattan charity makes a life changing donation in Long Island City.

Wheelchair Charities Inc. distributed 20 motorized wheelchairs to local hospital residents Wednesday at LaGuardia Community College.

The chairs usually cost at least $10,000 to $25,000.

Wheelchair Charities Inc. Founder Hank Carter started the charity when his friend was shot in the early seventies and became paralyzed.

The customized motorized wheelchairs at Wednesday's celebration will go to patients in Manhattan and on Roosevelt Island.

"Just like anybody else, I'd like to see them out, I like to see them smiling and just like anybody else, a normal life," said Carter.

"It gives them independence. They're no longer confined to their hospital, environment," said LGACC Director of Occupational Therapy Assistant Program Regina Lehman.

Wheelchair Charities also donated disability-friendly desktop computers and iPads.
