A health clinic in Jamaica now bears the name of one of New York's former first ladies.

Officials with Brightpoint Health renamed their clinic on Sutphin Boulevard the Matilda Raffa Cuomo Health Center in a ceremony Friday in honor of the wife of the late former governor Mario Cuomo. They honored the former first lady for her history of charitable and humanitarian efforts.

After receiving a grant of more than $1 million, the nonprofit healthcare provider will be updating and expanding the facilities.

Officials with the clinic say Cuomo is the perfect namesake for the new center.

“A lot of times people don't realize what people like Matilda have done, so this is a way of showing them that she is really appreciated,” said Assembly Member Vivian Cook.

“The Cuomo family started this during the AIDS epidemic and has been along with us all along the journey,” added Paul Vitale, CEO of Brightpoint Health.

Brightpoint Health currently serves more than 50,000 patients with primary and behavioral health care throughout the State.
