Music, health, wellness and culture came to Tompkinsville Park Saturday to help bring the community together.

Community group Island Voice, alonside several other activist organizations hosted the annual "We Love Tompkins Park" celebration.

The day long event included activities like yoga, a park clean up and cultural performances.

Organizers said they want the community's help in breaking through the park's association with homelessness and drug abuse.

"The goal is not to gentrify the park, the goal is to include everybody in the park," said program director Shereese Mullings. "And by healing it through  holistic ways like we are doing today, through yoga and massages, it actually allows everyone to participate."

The next celebration in the park will be in November. Island Voice plans to organize a Veterans Day ceremony to honor local veterans.
