1862...The horse-drawn hansom cab is introduced in Central Park. Soon riding through the park becomes a favorite pastime for New Yorkers, and a late afternoon carriage parade along the East Drive becomes a daily tradition. Today, hansom cabs are common around Central Park and Midtown.

1919..."Sir Barton" wins the Belmont Stakes and becomes the first thoroughbred to win horse racing's Triple Crown.
